Mexico Insurance for USA and Canadian Residents
As you may already know, if you will be traveling in Mexico it is required by law that you carry an official Mexico Liability Insurance policy. It is a serious crime if you are caught without this important coverage in Mexico.
The Mexico Insurance Program provided through Thum Insurance Agency will meet all the requirements of the Mexican government. Policies are provided through companies that are not only licensed and approved in Mexico but are also among the top rated companies for claims service and reliability. The insurance companies provide toll-free telephone numbers to report claims 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with English speaking adjustors.
Two types of policies are available: Liability Only or Liability With Physical Damage.
It is IMPORTANT that you check with your present insurance company providing your motor home, automobile or motorcycle insurance to verify if they will provide you with physical damage coverage on your vehicle while in Mexico.
Typically, motor home insurance companies provide an additional coverage that can be added (or is already included) to your existing policy for physical damage coverage in Mexico. If you currently have Mexico physical damage coverage under your U.S. policy, you only need to obtain Liability Only coverage while in Mexico. However, it is rare for a U.S. automobile or motorcycle insurance carrier to provide any type of coverage at all for your vehicle in Mexico. In this case, if you want your automobile or motorcycle to be covered for physical damage in Mexico, you would have to purchase a Liability with Physical Damage Mexico policy. If you do not want physical damage coverage, the Liability Only Policy is all you will need.
The length of the policy can be anywhere from a day to a full year. Here is a brief overview of the different packages. Coverage’s may differ slightly between companies.

Example: If you are driving a motor home into Mexico and towing a car, you must purchase a policy for the motor home showing the auto as the towed vehicle. Then you must also purchase a separate policy for the automobile. This will ensure you are properly covered for both vehicles, whether they are being driven or towed.
